Terms & Conditions.

These terms govern your use of Old Norse Translator (the “Site”). By accessing or using the Site, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

Last updated: October 2, 2026

1. The service.

Old Norse Translator is a free, open-access website offering translation, rune conversion, dictionary, phrasebook, audio pronunciation, quiz, and related educational tools. No account is required, and no fee is charged.

2. Acceptable use.

You agree not to:

  • use the Site for any unlawful, harmful, or fraudulent purpose;
  • attempt to disrupt, overload, reverse engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Site or its servers;
  • use automated scripts, crawlers, or scraping to extract the dictionary or other Site content at scale, except as permitted by law;
  • misrepresent output from the Site as authentic historical inscriptions, scholarly attestation, or official documentation;
  • reproduce, resell, or sublicense the Site as a whole without our prior written permission.

3. Accuracy and disclaimer.

Old Norse was spoken across a wide region and over several centuries, and the written record is incomplete. Results produced by the Site mix directly attested dictionary entries with machine-generated reconstructions, and each result is labelled with its source. The Site is provided “as is” and “as available” for study, reference, and creative purposes only.

We do not warrant that translations, transliterations, rune conversions, pronunciations, or other output are complete, error-free, or suitable for academic, legal, commercial, or inscriptional use. You are responsible for verifying any output before relying on it.

4. Not professional advice.

Nothing on the Site constitutes linguistic, academic, legal, or other professional advice, and the Site does not create a professional relationship of any kind.

5. Intellectual property.

The Site's design, interface, original text, and code are owned by us and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may view and use the Site for personal, non-commercial purposes, and you may share links to it freely.

6. Third-party services and links.

The Site depends on third-party hosting, font, and reference-data providers, and may link to external websites. We do not control and are not responsible for the availability, content, or practices of any third party. Your use of a third-party service is governed by that service's own terms.

7. Limitation of liability.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or goodwill, arising from or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Site. Your sole remedy for dissatisfaction with the Site is to stop using it.
